Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced the establishment of its first LED VP stage, located at Sony Innovation Studios in Culver City.
Stage 22 is one of the most advanced virtual production facilities in the world, featuring a fully enclosed 80’ x 90’ x 29’6 virtual production volume in an 18,000 square foot purpose-built sound stage.
Megalopolis, the long-awaited sci-fi feature is finally set to begin filming, and it was announced that the production will be shot using VP.
Having successfully enhanced the quality of Sweet Home, another Netflix series produced using Unreal Engine’s VP features,
BeeHive 2.0 lets users visualize their content, whether on an LED wall or remotely, across an entire VP team.
The series is filmed, in part, within a “volume”, using a relatively new film-making tool and technique known as virtual production.
Merging a physical set with real-time 3D graphics, MediaMonks and IRON Films were able to transition between scenes and do the full shooting in one place, balancing incredible visuals with seamless production.
