About the Panelists:
LAUREN PAUL
Lauren is a producer and consultant with over a decade of experience integrating new technology into performance and storytelling. Specializing in virtual production, real-time technology, and visual effects, she collaborates with industry-leading studios and productions to push the boundaries of storytelling through technical innovation for film, television, and live events.
Having worked through the ranks of production services, Lauren most recently led the business development and marketing team at Lux Machina. She helped to pioneer the development and installation of some of the largest and most complex virtual production installations used for productions like Barbie, House of the Dragon, Megalopolis, Silo, Godzilla x Kong and Masters of the Air.
MICHELLE BONNARD
Michelle is a successful actor on stage and screen, most recently appearing in; House of the Dragon (HBO), Insomnia (Paramount+) and Unforgotten (ITV). Michelle currently has feature film Superhuman, in development with Other Productions, and the series Trash and You Did This with Motive Pictures. Michelle was in the writers room and wrote episode 4 of Malory Towers Season 3 which was nominated for a children’s Emmy award for best drama series. Her first short STAND STILL was premiered as part of the 2019 London Film Festival in NT1. She wrote and acted in Stand Still whilst 7 months pregnant. As a writer, Michelle has developed projects for Company Pictures, Warp and Working Title.
For the last 2 years, Michelle has job-shared the role of Head of Screen and Audio at LAMDA. Part of the role has been bringing in £2M worth of funding for a Virtual Production LED Volume stage and Mo-Cap studio, which has allowed Michelle to write and direct scenes on the Volume. In 2023 she directed the SMPTE showcases at London’s Garden Studios and at XR studios in LA. Michelle is a bold creative, with a collaborative mindset and is always excited to take on new challenges in the creative sector.
JOANNA ALPE
Born in New Zealand, Joanna has been a serial entrepreneur and innovator throughout her career, named Top Digital Innovator in Startup 100 list and endorsed by Tech Nation for the Global Talent visa to the UK. She is an international speaker on creative and music technology, Joanna has spoken at such events as SXSW (Austin), SF Music Tech Summit (San Francisco), Audience Access Affair (NYC), BIME (Spain), Podim (Slovenia), Eurosonic (Holland), and Tech Entrepreneurs Week and Wired conference in London among others. She has also guest lectured at City University/Cass Business School’s Masters of Entrepreneurship.
In her role at Bild Studios, Joanna works as Chief Commercial Officer and was instrumental in launching and scaling MARS Volume in 2021, which is now the UK’s longest running Virtual Production facility, on a mission to make VP accessible to the widest range of productions. MARS Volume is fastly becoming the preferred virtual production studio of major streamers, television networks and award-winning production companies alike. She also founded MARS Academy in 2022 – world leading virtual production training. In 2023 MARS Volume & MARS Academy were named West London Creative Business of the Year. In that same year Bild Studios won a Guinness World Record for their ground breaking work on Dubai Expo creating the world’s largest interactive dome.
KATE PHIBBS
Kate is a London-based, BAFTA-nominated producer currently working as Head of Studio at Film Soho’s new state-of-the-art volume studio, the V Studio.
Prior to this Kate was working at Dimension Studios as a Virtual Production Development Producer, specialising in identifying projects for a VP-led filming approach. Here, Kate enjoyed working closely alongside filmmakers with projects containing a significant proportion of Virtual Production. This process of conceptualising, budgeting, scheduling and ultimately realising their film and TV projects ensured that the right VP tool (or otherwise) was used for the job.
A graduate of the National Film and Television School (NFTS) where she earned a Masters in Producing Film & Television, prior to moving into producing scripted film & TV, Kate was Head of Operations at 3xScreen Media. During this time she led international teams running large-scale multi-camera live broadcast & television OB productions across the globe from the 2016 Rio Olympics to the Oscar’s red carpet.
OLIVIA FARRAR
Olivia is the CEO and Creative Director of All Groovy, bringing a decade of expertise in motion capture, animation, virtual production, and on-set supervision. She has worked with some of the world’s most influential production companies, including Marvel, Disney, and Warner Brothers as well as many broadcast events including sport and esports, successfully navigating the industry’s competitive landscape with creativity and confidence.
As a dynamic leader, Olivia excels in client relationships and creative strategy, effectively bridging the gap between ambition and execution. Her deep understanding of the creative process allows her to set realistic expectations and achievable goals. Olivia’s hands-on approach empowers her team to navigate complex challenges and deliver visually stunning projects in a collaborative and transparent manner.
